Les Contes d’Hoffmann d'Offenbach à l’Opéra de Paris
Poésie, humour et imagination à l’Opéra de Paris
Ce testament génial d’Offenbach est mis en valeur par l’un des grands noms de la mise en scène lyrique : le canadien Robert Carsen. Favori des plus fameux théâtres internationaux, il revient à l'Opéra de Paris après avoir collaboré à dix reprises avec l’institution parisienne. Les décors et les costumes réalisés par Michael Levine illustrent la magie que dégage cette œuvre fantastique.

No Festival de Páscoa de Baden-Baden, o violoncelista franco-argentino Sol Gabetta vai realizar um sonho há muito acalentado: a brincar com a Filarmónica de Berlim, sob a direcção de Sir Simon Rattle.
Sol Gabetta encanta o público com seu jogo apaixonado e carisma. Distingue-se pela grande variedade de estilos e repertórios que aborda. Sua carreira internacional começou em 2004, quando ela ganhou o prestigiado Credit Suisse Prêmio Jovens Artistas, um dos mais ricamente recompensadora com preços jovens músicos. Os concertos com a Filarmônica de Viena abriu as portas para o palco internacional. Suas gravações refletem a amplitude do espectro musical que abrange: concertos de Vivaldi em concertos de violoncelo barroco de Haydn a clássica para obras românticas de Saint-Saëns, Shostakovich e Elgar. O concerto para violoncelo é como uma confissão, uma música de despedida, pegada melancolia e nostalgia. É com esta peça famosa Sol Gabetta ocorre no cenário Baden-Baden. Na verdade, o tom virtuoso argentino sabe como fazer seu violoncelo Guadagnini de 1759 torna o instrumento ideal para este quarto cheio de melodias românticas final.

Kristjan Järvi conducts Milhaud, Mahler and R. Strauss – With Stephan Genz
The German baritone Stephan Genz is known for his Lieder performances. He has received lessons from Hans Joachim Beyer, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, and is laureate of many international competitions, partly thanks to his Brahms and Hugo Wolf recitals. In 1999, he was awarded the very prestigious Gramophone Award in London.
La Création du Monde, Darius Milhaud's work written for a one-act ballet, was inspired by Blaise Cendrars's Anthologie nègre. It was composed for a small orchestra of seventeen instruments, with a solo part for saxophone.
Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen will also be performed. Its topic is one of the favorites of the German repertoire: a disappointed and doomed hero, travelling with no purpose, trying to ease his suffering. Divertimento for small orchestra by Richard Strauss will also be played; the composer would have turned 150 this year.

The very famous Overture of Rossini's Barber of Seville, which opens this concert, had initially been composed for another work, Aureliano in Palmira, and then used again by the composer for Elisabetta, regina d'Inghilterra. Yuri Temirkanov will then welcome a new piano-star, the young Daniil Trifonov, who has managed to succeed with the audience, the press and his peers, at only 23 years-old. Daniil Trifonov will play the virtuoso and very lyrical Concerto for piano No. 3 by Rachmaninov. Last but not least, Yuri Temirkanov will conduct the cantanta Alexander Nevsky by Prokofiev, composed for mezzo-soprano (Ekaterina Semenchuk at Verbier), choir and orchestra for Sergueï Eisenstein's movie

Il re pastore, a seldomly performed opera composed by Mozart, presented in a concert version starring Krešimir Špicer at the Verbier Festival.
If The Marriage of Figaro (presented in a concert version in 2012 at the Verbier Festival), Don Giovanni and The Magic Flute feature among the greatest and most famous operas of all time, Mozart also wrote many operas that we rarely get the opportunity to listen. It is the case of Il re pastore (The Shepherd King), an opera seria composed after Felice Giardini, when Mozart was only 19. Rumor has it that the prodigy wrote the score in less than two months. The Mozartian style is very recognizable: all the elements which elevated Idomeneo, re di Creta and La Clemenza di Tito at the rank of masterpieces are there.
For this Il re pastore performance, we have the pleasure to hear the tenor Krešimir Špicer for his debut at the Verbier Festival. With him, Anthony Gregory, Iulia Maria Dan, Regula Mühlemann, Emöke Barath and of course the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra and its music director Gábor Takács-Nagy
